Basel Peace Office encourages you to participate in the Abolition 2000 Annual Meeting in New York on Sunday 5th May.
Nuclear abolition activists from around the world will share campaign reports, discuss nuclear disarmament strategy, explore opportunities for action, build cooperation and plan further campaigns. The discussions will address, amongst other things, implementation of the Abolition 2000 11 point founding statement, which has been endorsed by over 2000 civil society organizations.
The Abolition 2000 meeting occurs during the time of the Non-Proliferation Treaty preparatory conference at the United Nations, and follows the day after the international conference Growing Nuclear Risks in a Changing World: New Thinking & Movement Building. The Abolition 2000 meeting and will build on campaign ideas arising from these other events.
Program:
Session 1: Welcome. Introduction to Abolition 2000. Secretariat report. Timeline of upcoming actions and events.
Session 2: Reports from working groups and affiliated networks and campaigns. Campaign proposals.
Lunch
Session 3: Discussion of proposals
Session 4: Outreach. Building the network. Appointment of Global Council.
Venue: Goddard Riverside Community Center, 593 Columbus Ave, New York.
Date/time: Sunday May 5. 9:30am – 5pm.
Suggested donations: $10 – $50. No one will be turned away. All money raised will contribute towards the costs of the meeting including room hire, tea, coffee and basic lunch.
